James Scott has over 25 years of experience in all aspects of transportation management. He prides himself on being an innovative leader with proven organizational, analytical, and team-building skills.
James is the Executive Director/Vice President of Maintenance and Infrastructure for Long Beach Transit in Long Beach California. James is responsible for all organizational management of staff and resources for maintenance, facilities, and infrastructure with the responsibility for giving strategic direction and implementing a high-quality vision within the agency. Long Beach Transit provides public transit services for the City of Long Beach and 14 surrounding cities with a service area of 107 square miles in Southern California. Additionally, the agency runs two water taxi services in the Long Beach bay area.
Prior to coming to Long Beach Transit, James was employed as Corporate Fleet/Transportation Director with M. S. International where he was responsible for all aspects of domestic transportation and fleet management across 35 terminal locations throughout the United States and Canada. M.S. International is the leading nationwide distributor of flooring, countertops, and tile with 3 billion in annual revenue that supports 400,000 jobs worldwide.
James Scott also worked at Knight transportation as a Division Manager and led the Southern Ca Port and Rail services division and the Az dry van division, overseeing operations, safety, maintenance, market growth, rates & tariffs, customer service, employee development, DOT compliance, and profitability. He also created, developed, and opened Knight’s first full distribution and warehouse center. Preceding this James spent nearly 13 years working for two of the largest transportation companies , UPS, and FedEx.
James professional transportation experience includes, operations, maintenance, safety and risk management, training and employee development, project management, operations analysis, and system redesign, recruiting and hiring, labor relations and employee management, operational growth strategy, and transportation P&L and financial management.
James holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Arizona State University.
