High Voltage Qualified for Transit - CT-HVA-6000-DE-I
Course Prerequisites:
Course Description:
The High-Voltage Qualified in-person training provides you with the hands-on experience you need on your path to achieving high-voltage qualification. This 8-hour course is designed for mechanics who interact with high-voltage areas in Zero-Emission Buses (ZEBs) and Electric Vehicle Support Equipment (EVSE). This immersive one-day training guides you through critical procedures including creating an electrically safe work condition. You will gain practical skills through testing and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), setting up safety barriers and protection boundaries, and safely de-energizing a vehicle and isolating its high-voltage energy using service information for your specific bus.
The High-Voltage Qualified course is based on principles from OSHA 1910 and the latest version of NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
This training ensures that you are fully equipped to create and maintain an electrically safe work condition, complying with industry standards and recommended practices. It also ensures that all participants are confident in their capabilities and can demonstrate proficiency to achieve a qualified status.
Number of Hours/Days:
- 8-hours in-class for 1-day instructor facilitated training
In this course, participants will:
- Describe the operations and functions of high-voltage components and how they work together
- Identify the types, causes, and symptoms of electrical injuries and how to prevent them
- Recall how to establish and respect protection boundaries for high-voltage areas
- Demonstrate the proper way to wear and inspect PPE for high-voltage tasks
- Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and test for the absence of voltage to ensure safety
- Practice the three steps in performing a Contact Release effectively
- Develop skills to set up and recognize visual cues indicating the presence of hazardous voltage
Course Benefits:
- Practical Knowledge: Gain hands-on experience with high-voltage components and safety procedures in a controlled environment
- Safety Proficiency: Enhance your ability to identify and mitigate electrical hazards
- PPE Mastery: Identify, don, and inspect PPE, which is crucial for protecting yourself in a high-voltage environment
- Electrically Safe Work Condition: Master the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure, test for the absence of voltage, and ensure equipment is safe to work on
- Interactive Learning: Through interactive worksheets and rigorous hands-on exercises, you will reinforce your learning and prepare for real-world applications
- Take-Away Resources: Printed participant guide with resource materials to support ongoing learning
- Industry-Standard Training: Receive training based on the principles of OSHA 1910 and the latest edition of NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, ensuring compliance with industry requirements.
Compliance:
- HV Qualified Mechanics are required to take and pass this course every 3 years. The course may be required sooner than the 3-year mark depending on significant changes, including:
- Introduction of new vehicle model(s)
- New technology or types of equipment
- Technical Service Bulletins or engineering changes
- Updates or changes to Electrical Safety Program, Emergency Response Plan, or Standard Operating Procedures
